Ingredients :

Bottle Gourd Sorakkai Kootu
Bottle Gourd / Sorakkai - 1 no (Small, De-skinned, De-seeded, Chopped)
Bengal Gram (split) / Kadalai Paruppu - 1\2 cup (soaked 2 to 3 hrs)
Onion - 1 no (chopped)
Tomato - 1 no (chopped)
Red Chili Powder - 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds Powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Ground Coconut Paste - 1\4 cup
Oil - 1 tbsp
Water - 2 cup
Required Salt.

To Temper :

Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - 2 stks

Method :
Bottle Gourd Sorakkai Kootu

Steps To Make Sorakkai \ Bottle Gourd Kootu :

  • Heat oil in pressure cooker pan, temper mustard seeds and urad dal, after splutter add onion and curry leaves, saute until light golden brown colour. (Image 1)
  • Add tomato and saute until tender. (Image 2)
  • Add bottle gourd and saute for an minute. (Image 3)
  • Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and cumin seeds powder, stir well and cook until raw smell leaves. (Image 4)

  • Add coconut paste, bengal gram and required salt, mix well.
  • Pour water and bring to boil.
  • Cook for 1 whistle and 5min in simmer.
  • When all the steam has escaped, open the pressure cooker pan, mix well and ready to serve.
