Ingredients :

Chayote / Bangalore Brinjal / Chow Chow Kootu Ingredients
Chayote / Bangalore Brinjal / Chow Chow - 1 no (de-skinned, chopped)
Shallots - 10 no (chopped) (or) Onion - 1 no (chopped)
Small Tomato - 1 no (chopped)
Red Chili Powder - 3/4 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Cumin Seeds Powder - 1/2 tsp
Green Gram - 3 tbsp
Coconut Milk - 1 cup ( 1/4 coconut)
Water - 1 cup
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt to Taste.

To Temper :


Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - 1 stk.
Method :

Steps To Make Chow Chow Kootu :

  • In a pressure cooker pan, temper mustard seeds and urad dal in hot oil.
  • After splutter add onion and curry leaves saute until light golden brown colour.
  • Add tomato and chayote / chow chow, saute for an minute.
  • Add green gram and mix well.
  • Add red chili powder, cumin seeds powder, turmeric powder and required salt, mix well and saute until raw smell leaves.
  • Pour coconut milk and water, mix well.
  • Close the lid and cook for 1 whistle and 2min in simmer. When all the steam has escaped, open pressure cooker, mix well and ready to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Elephant Yam Fry and Egg Fry.
