Milky Snake Gourd Kootu / Paal Pudalangai Kootu


Ingredients :

Milky Snake Gourd Kootu / Paal Pudalangai Kootu Ingredients

Snake Gourd - 1 no (small)
Split Green Gram - 1/4 cup (cooked)
Onion - 1 no (chopped)
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Green Chili - 2 no (chopped, 2" long)
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves - 2 stk
Cow's Milk - 1 cup (boiled)
Water - 1/2 cup
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt to taste.

Method :

Steps To Clean Snake Gourd :
  • First to clean snake gourd, gently scrap the skin by using knife to remove the snowy skin. 
  • Then remove the seeds and other stuff from inside. 
  • Wash well, chop into small pieces and ready to use.


Steps To Make Milky Snake Gourd Kootu :
  • Heat oil in a kadai, temper cumin seeds after splutter add onion, curry leaves and green chili, saute til the onion becomes slightly golden brown colour.
  • Add cleaned and washed snake gourd, saute and cook for 2 - 3min.
  • Pour water and add required salt, cook for another 5min or until the snake gourd cooks well.


  • Add boiled green gram and turmeric powder, mix well.
  • Finally pour milk, bring to boil and ready to serve.



Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Fried Egg, Fried Elephant Yam or Crispy Fried Potato.
