Hot and Sour Sun Dried Turkey Berry Curry / Sundakkai Vathal Kuzhambu

Ingredients :

Hot and Sour Sun Dried Turkey Berry Curry / Sundakkai Vathal Kuzhambu

Sun Dried Turkey Berry / Sundakkai vathal - 1 tbsp
Tamarind Water - 1 1/2 cup (2" ball size)
Coconut Paste - 2 tbsp
Small Onion - 100 gm or Large Onion - 1 no (chopped)
Garlic - 100 gm
Tomato - 1 no (chopped)
Red Chili Powder - 1 1/2 tsp
Coriander Powder - 1 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Green Chili - 2 nos (chop into two)
Oil - 3 tbsp
Salt to taste.

To Temper :

Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal / Black Gram (skinless) - 1/4 tsp
Dry Red Chili - 2 no

Method :


  • First roast the sun dried turkey berry / sundakkai vathal with a teaspoon of oil and keep aside. (shown in above image)


Steps To Make Sundakkai Vathal Kuzhambu :
  • Heat oil in a pan, temper mustard seeds, urad dal / black gram (skinless) and dry red chili, after splutter add onion and garlic, saute until the onion becomes half golden brown colour.
  • Add tomato and green chili, saute for an minute.
  • Add red chili powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder, saute until the raw smell leaves completely.


  • Add coconut paste, stir well and pour tamarind water, mix well.
  • Bring it boil, add sun dried turkey berry / sundakkai vathal and mix well. 
  • Cover the lid and cook for 15mins in medium flame til the oil separates from the curry and ready to serve.

  • Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Papad, Boiled Egg and White Rice.
