Simple Bottle Gourd / Sorakkai Kootu

Ingredients :

Simple Bottle Gourd / Sorakkai Kootu

Bottle Gourd / Sorakkai - 250 gm (peel off the skin and chopped)
Bengal Gram (split) - 1/2 cup (boiled with 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder)
Small Onion - 50 gm (or) Onion - 1 no (chopped)
Large Green Chili - 2 nos (slit)
Curry Leaves - 2 stks
Coconut Shred - 2 tbsp
Oil - 1 tbsp
Water - 1 cup
Salt to taste.

To Temper :

Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp 
Urad Dal / Black Gram (skinless) - 1/4 tsp

Method :

Simple Bottle Gourd / Sorakkai Kootu

Steps To Make Bottle Gourd Kootu :
  • Heat oil in a kadai / frying pan, temper mustard seeds and urad dal, after splutter add onion, green chili and curry leaves, saute until the onion becomes light golden colour.
  • Add bottle gourd / sorakkai and required salt, saute and close the lid, cook for about 5mins in low flame.

  • Pour water and add bengal gram, saute and cook til boil.
  • Finally add coconut shreds, stir well and ready to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Hot and Simple Potato Poriyal or Crispy Potato Fry or Simple Fried Egg
