Simple Chayote / Bangalore Brinjal / Chow Chow Kootu


Ingredients :

Simple Chayote / Bangalore Brinjal / Chow Chow Kootu

Chayote / Bangalore Brinjal / Chow Chow - 1 no (medium size, skin peel off and chopped)
Green Gram (skinless) - 1/4 (boiled with 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder)
Large Onion - 1 no (chopped)
Green Chili - 2 nos (slit)
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Ground Coconut Paste - 2 tbsp
Curry Leaves - 1 stks
Water - 1 and 1/2 cup
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt to Taste.

To Temper :

Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal / Black Gram (skinless) - 1/4 tsp

Simple Chayote / Bangalore Brinjal / Chow Chow Kootu

  • Heat Oil in a Kadai or Pan, to Temper, add Mustard Seeds and Urad Dal, after splutter add Onion and Curry Leaves, saute until Onion colour change.
  • Add Chayote, saute for 2mins in low flame.
  • Then add Coconut Paste, saute for few mins.

  • Add Water and required Salt, bring to boil, close the lid and cook for 5mins in low flame.
  • Finally add Boiled Green Gram (skinless) and cook for 2mins. Ready to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Crispy Potato Fry or Simple Fried Egg
