Green Peas / Pattani / Mutter Poriyal


Ingredients :

Green Peas / Pattani / Mutter Poriyal

Fresh Green Peas - 250 gm
Coconut Paste - 1 tbsp
Onion - 1 no (chopped)
Red Chili Powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Garam Masala Powder - 1/2 tsp
Sugar - 1 tsp (optional)
Curry Leaves - 1 stks
Water -1/2 cup
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt to Taste. 


To Roast and Grind into Powder :

Poppy Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tsp

To Temper :

Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal \ Black Gram (skinless) - 1/4 tsp

Method :

Green Peas / Pattani / Mutter Poriyal

  • Dry roast the poppy seeds and cumin seeds. Cool and grind into fine powder, keep aside.

  • Heat the oil in a pressure cooker pan, temper the mustard seeds and urad dal, after splutter add the onion and curry Leaves, saute until light golden colour.
  • Add red chili powder, garam masala, turmeric powder and ground poppy-cumin powder, saute until raw smell leaves.

  • Add the green peas and saute for few seconds.
  • Then add the coconut paste, required salt and water, mix well and close the lid, cook for 1 whistle over high flame and three minutes over low flame.
  • When all the steam has escaped, open the pressure cooker, cook until dry and serve hot.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Sambar or Dal with Rasam and Papad.
