Split Red Gram / Toor Dal / Thuvaram Paruppu Recipe


Ingredients :

Toor Dal / Thuvaram Paruppu

Toor Dal / Thuvaram Paruppu - 1/2 cup
Small Onion - 2 nos (chopped)
Green Chili - 1 no (slit)
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida Powder - 1/4 tsp
Coriander Leaves - 1 tbsp (chopped)
Curry Leaves - 1 stks
Cumin Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Oil - tsp
Water - 1 and 1/2 cup
Salt to Taste.

Method :

Toor Dal / Thuvaram Paruppu

  • In a pressure cooker pan, add toor dal, turmeric powder, oil, asafoetida and water, cook for 1 whistle and 3min in simmer.
  • When all the steam has escaped, open pressure cooker and keep aside.

Toor Dal / Thuvaram Paruppu

  • Now heat ghee in a kadai, add cumin seeds after splutter add onion, curry leaves and green chili, saute until light golden colour.
  • Add pressure cooked toor dal and required salt, mix well and cook for an minute.
  • Finally garnish with coriander leaves and ready to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Crispy Potato Fry or Hot and Crispy Baby Corn Finger Fry or Green Peas \ Pattani Poriyal
