Amaranth Greens Kootu | Arai Keerai Kootu | அரைக் கீரை கூட்டு


Ingredients :

Amaranth Greens Kootu | Arai Keerai Kootu | அரைக் கீரை கூட்டு

Amaranth Greens / Arai Keerai - 2 cups (removed steam, cleaned, chopped and washed)
Onion - 1 no (chopped)
Tomatoes - 2 nos (chopped)
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Moong Dal / Paasi Paruppu - 1/4 cup
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1/4 tsp
Dry Red Chili - 2 nos (slit)
Oil - 1 tbsp
Water - 1 cup
Salt to Taste.

To Grind to Paste :

Coconut - 1 tbsp
Green Chili - 2 nos
Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tsp

Method :

  • First roast Moong Dal / Paasi Paruppu with 1 tsp of Oil until light brown colour.
  • Then Pressure Cook with Turmeric Powder and 1/2 cup of Water for 1 whistle and 2mins in simmer. (when all the steam has escaped, open Pressure Cooker) Keep aside.

  • Then grind mentioned ingredients into fine paste with required water and keep aside.

  • Now to make Kootu, In a Pressure Cooker Pan, add Amaranth Greens / Arai Keerai, Onion, Tomato, ground Paste, required Salt and cup of Water, mix well and cook for 1 whistle.
  • When all the steam has escaped, open Pressure Cooker.

  • Then add cooked Moong Dal / Paasi Parrupu and tempered Murstard Seeds, Urad Dal and Dry Red Chili, mix well and ready to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Crispy Taro Fry or Yam Fry
