Tamarind Rice | Puli Sadham | Puliogare | Puliyodharai | புளி சாதம்


Ingredients :

Tamarind Rice | Puli Sadham | Puliogare | Puliyodharai | புளி சாதம்

Tamarind / Puli - 1 and 1/2 inch ball size
Garlic - 10 Cloves
Dry Red Chili - 5 nos (slit)
Bengal Gram - 1 tbsp
Urad Dal - 1 tbsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida - 1/2 tsp
Fried Ground Nuts - 2 tbsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - 2 stk
Gingelly Oil - 3 tbsp
Water - 1 cup
Salt to Taste
Cooked Rice - 2 cups.

Method :

  • First soak the tamarind in a cup of water for 1/2 an hour, smash well, extract pulp and keep aside. (above image)

Steps To Make Tamarind Rice :
  • To make tamarind paste, heat oil in a kadai / frying pan, temper the mustard seeds, after splutter add garlic, dry red chili, bengal gram, urad dal and curry leaves, saute until light golden brown colour.
  • Then add turmeric powder, asafoetida and ground nuts, saute for about 1/2 a minute.
  • Pour the tamarind water and required salt, mix well and bring to boil.

  • Then cook for 10mins (+ or -) over simmer, stirring occasionally, until little thick paste consistency. 
  • Finally add cooked rice and mix well.
  • Ready to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Hard-Boiled Egg or Potato Chips
