Garlic Chutney | பூண்டு சட்னி | Poondu / Pundu Chutney



Ingredients :

Garlic Chutney | பூண்டு சட்னி | Poondu / Pundu Chutney

Garlic - 1 cup (de-skinned)
Ulundu \ Urad Dal - 1 and 1/2 tbsp + 1/4 tsp
Tamarind - 1" ball
Dry Red Chili - 3 no
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - 1 stk
Oil - 2 tsp + 1 tsp
Salt to Taste.

Method :

Steps To Make Garlic Chutney :
  • Heat 2 tsp of oil in a kadai / pan, roast urad dal (1 and 1/2 tbsp) and dry red chili, saute til the urad dal becomes light brown colour. (Image 1)
  • Add garlic and saute for an minute. (Image 2)
  • Add tamarind and saute again for about 5 minute in simmer or until the garlic becomes golden brown colour. (Image 3 & 4)

  • Allow to cool completely.
  • Grind into smooth paste with required salt and required water, keep aside. (Image 5 & 6)

  • Temper mustard seeds and urad dal in a teaspoon of hot oil separately, after splutter add curry leaves and saute for few seconds. (Image 7)
  • Mix the tempered ingredients with the ground garlic paste, mix well and ready to serve. (Image 8)

Serving Suggestion : Serve with Dosai or Idly.
