Little Millet Chicken Biryani | சாமை கோழிக் கறி பிரியாணி | Samai Kozhi Kari Biryani



Ingredients :

Little Millet Chicken Biryani | சாமை கோழிக் கறி பிரியாணி | Samai Kozhi Kari Biryani

Samai / Little Millet - 1 and 1/2 cup (washed, soaked 10 mins)
Chicken - 350 gm
Onion - 2 no (chopped)
Tomato - 2 no (chopped)
Green Chili - 4 no
Ginger Garlic - 1 tsp
Red Chili Powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Lemon Juice - 1 no
Curry Leaves - 1 stk
Coconut Milk - 2 cup
Mint Leaves - 3/4 cup
Coriander Leaves - 3/4 cup (chopped)
Water - 1 cup
Ghee - 2 tbsp
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt To Taste.

Spices :

Cinnamon Stick - 3 no (2" long)
Bay leaf - 2 no
Star Anise - 1 no
Cloves - 5 no
Cardamom - 3 no
Fennel Seeds - 1/2 tsp

Method :

Steps To Make Samai / Little Millet Biryani :
  • Heat ghee in a pressure cooker pan and roast all the mentioned spices. (Image 1)
  • Add onion and curry leaves, saute til the onion becomes light golden brown colour. (Image 2)
  • Add ginger garlic paste and saute til its raw smell leaves. (Image 3)
  • Add tomato and green chilli, saute til the tomato becomes tender. (Image 4)

  • Add chicken pieces and cook until its moisture reduced completely. (Image 5)
  • Add red chili powder, turmeric powder and required salt, saute for half an minute. (Image 6)
  • Add coriander leaves and mint leaves, saute for few seconds. (Image 7)
  • Add samai \ little millet and mix well. (Image 8)

  • Pour coconut milk, water and lemon juice, mix well. (Image 9)
  • Close the lid and cook for 1 whistle and 3 min in simmer.
  • When all the steam has escaped, open the pressure cooker pan, mix well and ready to serve. (Image 10 & 11)

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Onion Raita and Hard Boiled Egg.

Loved the taste and flavour..a bit too squishy texture wise though..will reduce the Coconut milk next time and add more water

Hai "Train of Though", thank u very much for ur response.

If you got squishy texture means just reduce little water or coconut milk (around 1\4 cup) from the total liquid quantity. Adjusting might not be work out.. For millets, some time measurement will vary little. Hope it will useful to u : )
