Ingredients :

Childrens Day Special Chocolate Sponge Cake Recipe

Maida \ All Purpose Flour - 100gm + extra for dusting
Cocoa Powder - 4 tsp
Powdered Sugar - 3/4 cup
Unsalted Butter - 50 gm (room temperature) + extra for greasing
Egg - 2 no (room temperature)
Butter Milk - 1/2 cup (or 1/2 cup Milk + 1 and 1/2 tsp Vinegar)
Baking Powder - 1/2 tsp
Cooking Soda - 1/2 tsp
Salt - 2 pinch
Vinegar - 1 and 1/2 tsp
Vanilla Essence - 1 tsp

For Butter Icing :

Butter - 100 gm (room temperature)
Icing Sugar - 300 gm
Milk - 2 to 3 tsp (+ or -)
Vanilla Essence - 1 and 1/2 tsp

Method :

Steps To Make Chocolate Sponge Cake :
  • Preheat the oven to 180 degree Celsius.
  • Line a 7" round baking tin, also grease and dust the sides and keep aside. (Image 1)

  • Sieve the flour along with cocoa powder, baking powder, cooking soda, and salt for 3 to 4 times and keep aside. (Image 2)

  • Cream the butter and sugar with an electric beater. (Image 3 and 4)
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time. (Image 5 and 6)

  • Add in vanilla essence, butter milk and vinegar and beat til well combined. (Image 7 and 8)
  • Add sieved flour and fold the mixture. (Image 9)
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared tin. (Image 10)

  • Bake for 20 to 25 min or until cooked.
  • Test the cake by inserting a tooth pick or knife in the middle, it should come out clean.
  • Then remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for 10min, turn out and remove the butter paper / waxed paper and cool completely.
  • Decorate with butter icing and ready to serve.
