Ingredients :

Karuveppillai Saadam
Curry Leaves Sticks - 1 handful or 15 sticks
Urad Dal - 1 and 1/2 tbsp + 1/4 tsp
Bengal Gram \ Kadalai Paruppu - 1 and 1/2 tbsp
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Pepper Corn - 1 tsp
Coriander Seeds - 1 tsp
Dry Red Chili - 3 no
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Cooked Rice - 1 and 1/2 cup
Salt to Taste.

Steps To Make The Karuveppilai Podi Saadam \ Curry Leaves Powder For Rice :

  • Dry roast the cumin seeds, coriander seeds, pepper corn and dry red chilli in a hot kadhai \ pan over simmer and set aside to cool. (Image 1)
  • Similarly dry roast the bengal gram and urad dal separately and keep aside. (Image 2 and 3)
  • Then dry roast the curry leaves \ karuveppilai  by stirring continuously till the leaves become crispy and allow to cool completely. (Image 4)

  • Once cooled, first grind the roasted cumin seeds, coriander seeds, pepper corn, dry red chili with asafoetida and required salt into powder. (Image 5 and 6)
  • Add in the roasted curry leaves and again grind into powder and little coarsely, keep aside. (Image 7 and 8)

  • To make karuveppilai podi saadam \ curry leaves powder for rice, heat a tbsp of ghee and temper the mustard seeds and urad dal. (Image 9)
  • After splutter add the hot cooked rice and prepared curry leaves powder (+ or -), mix well and ready to serve. (Image 10 and 11)
