About Kollu :

Kollu is called as horse gram in english, generally it is utilized as cattle feed. Kollu have many medical uses and its rich in iron. Raw kollu is good for diabetics and also excellent fat burner. Kollu is commonly used to make the rasam, sambar, thuvaiyal, chutney and poriyal.

Ingredients :

Kollu Thuvaiyal
Kollu \ Horsegram - 1/2 cup
Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
Dry Red Chilli - 3 no
Tamarind Ball - 1" ball size
Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
Salt to Taste.

Steps To Make The Kollu \ Horsegram Thuvaiyal :

  • First dry roast the kollu \ horsegram with dry red chilli and asafoetida, and keep aside to cool. (Image 1)
  • Then roast the garlic and tamarind, then saute the coconut with them and let it cool. (Image 3)
  • To make the thuvaiyal, grind the kollu mixture coarsely. (Image 4)
  • Then grind with the coconut, tamarind, garlic and required salt into coarsely paste with required water. (Image 5 and 6)
  • Transfer the ground mixture into the bowl and ready to serve.
