Thinai Arisi Puzhi Saadam | Foxtail Millet Tamarind Rice

Thinai Arisi \ Foxtail Millet Rice - 2 cups
Tamarind - 2 inch ball size
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Urad Dal - 2 tbsp
Asafoetida - 1/2 tsp
Dry Red Chili - 5 no
Garlic - 10 cloves
Curry Leaves - 3 stk
Ground Nuts - 1/4 cup
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Gingelly Oil - 3 tbsp
Salt to Taste. |
Steps To Make The Thinai Puzhi Saadam \ Foxtail Millet Tamarind Rice :
- Wash and soak the thinai arisi for 15mins with 4 cups of water and required salt, then pressure cook for 1 whistle and 3mins over simmer, when all the steam has released, open the pan and keep aside. (Image 1)

- To make the tamarind water, soak the tamarind for an hour with a cup of water, smash well and extract the pulp, keep aside. (Image 2)

- To make the tamarind rice, temper the mustard seeds in the hot oil, after splutter add the urad dal and asafoetida, saute until the dal turn light brown color, also cook over simmer. (Image 3)
- Then add the dry red chili, garlic and curry leaves, saute until the garlic turn light brown color. (Image 4)
- Then add the ground nuts and saute for few seconds. (Image 5)
- Stir in the turmeric powder. (Image 6)

- Then pour the prepared tamarind water, mix well, bring boil, cook for about 10mins (+ or -) over simmer, until the oil is separate from the mixture and thick gravy consistency. (Image 8)
- Turn off the flame, add the pressure cooked thinai saadam and mix well without lumps, and ready to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with the Hard Boiled Egg or Potato Chips. |
