Seela Meen Kuzhambu

Fish Curry

Hot and Sour Varutha Masala Sheela Meen Kuzhambu | Barracuda Fish

Ingredients :
Fish Curry
Seela Meen \ Barracuda Fish - 500gm
Fenugreek - 1/2 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1/4 tsp
Shallots - 1/2 cup (finely chopped)
Garlic - 7 cloves
Curry Leaves - 2 stk
Large Tomato - 1 no (chopped)
Green Chilli - 2 no (slit)
Tamarind Water - 1 cup (2" ball size)
Gingelly Oil - 4 tbsp
Salt to Taste.

Masala :

Coriander Seeds - 2 tbsp
Pepper - 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Bengal Gram - 1 tbsp
Raw Rice - 2 tsp
Dry Red Chilli - 5 to 6 no
Fennel Seeds - 1/2 tsp

Method :
Fish Curry

Steps To Make The Sheela Meen Kuzhambu :

  • To make the masala, dry roast all the mentioned ingredients and making sure that it doesn't get burnt but is well roasted. (Image 1)
  • Cool the roasted masala mixture and ground into fine powder, keep aside. (Image 2)
  • To make the fish curry, temper the mustard seeds and urad dal, after splutter stir in the fenugreek. Then add in the shallots, garlic and curry leaves, saute until the shallots turn light brown colour. (Image 3)
  • Saute the tomato and green chilli until the tomato softened. (Image 4)
Fish Curry
  • Add in the roasted and powdered masala mixture, stir well for few seconds. (Image 5)
  • Add in the tamarind water and required salt, mix well, bring to boil and cook for 5 to 7mins to remove the raw smell. (Image 6)
  • Add in the fish pieces, cover and cook for 5mins over medium flame, don't stir in between to avoid to break instead just shake the pan to mix together all the ingredients. (Image 7 and 8)
  • Read to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with the fish fry.
