Vazhai Poo Adai

Healthy Vazhai Poo Adai | Banana Bloosom \ Plantain Flower Adai !

Ingredients :

Vazhai Poo \ Banana Bloosom \ Plantain Flower - 1 and 1/2 cup
Kadalai Paruppu \ Bengal Gram - 1/2 cup
Thuvaram Paruppu \ Skinless Green Gram - 1/2 cup
Idly Arisi - 1 cup
Pachai Arisi \ Raw Rice - 1 cup
Dry Red Chilli - 3 nos
Fennel Seeds - 1 tsp
Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
Shallots \ Sambar Onion - 1/2 cup (finely chopped)
Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
Coriander Leaves - 3 tbsp
Curry Leaves - 2 stk
Oil - required
Water - required
Crystal Salt - required.

Method :

Steps To Make The Vazhai Poo \ Banana Bloosom \ Plantain Flower Adai :

  • Wash and soak the kadalai paruppu, thuvaram paruppu, idly arisi, pachai arisi and dry red chilli with enough water for 2 hours. (Image 1)
  • Meantime to prepare the vazhai poo, remove the outer skin layer one by one and remove the florets. Then take off the stamen from florets and chop finely, and immerse in the buttermilk or lemon (1/2 no) water to avoid discoloration. (Image 2)
  • To make the adai batter, grind the soaked ingredients (paruppu, arisi and dry red chilli), fennel seeds, asoafoetida and required salt into coarsely with required water. (Image 3 and 4)
  • Batter consistency is similar to idly batter.
  • Then transfer the ground batter in to a mixing bowl, add in the shallots, coconut, coriander leaves and curry leaves and mix well. (Image 5)
  • Mix with the chopped vazhai poo (drained) . (Image 6 and 7)
  • To make the adai, heat the iron tawa, pour a ladleful of batter in the center, spread into circle for about 1/4" thickness, also make some holes using spoon and add a teaspoon of oil. (Image 8)
  • Cover and cook over medium flame on both sides until brown spots appear. (Image 9 and 10)
  • Do the same for the remaining batter.
Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with the coconut chutney.
