Mother's Day Special - Siru thaniyam \ Millet Recipe - Healthy Thinai Arisi Pal Payasam made with the thinai arisi pal (foxtail millet), thengai pal \ coconut milk and vellam \ jaggery, and flavored with cardamom.

Ingredients :

Thinai Arisi \ Foxtail Millet - 1/3 cup
Jaggery \ Vellam - 1 cup
Coconut Milk 1st extract - 1 cup
Coconut Milk 2nd extract - 2 cup
Cardamom - 5 nos
Cashews - 1/4 cup
Ghee - 3 tbsp

Method :

Preparation :

  • Wash and soak the thinai arisi \ foxtail millet rice for an hour. (Image 1). Drain the water and grind in to fine paste with required water and keep aside.

Steps To Make The Thinai Paal Payasam :

  • Make the jaggery syrup with a cup of water. (Image 2)
  • To make the payasam, in a heavy bottom kadhai, add the filtered thinai paste, second extracted coconut milk and a cup of water, mix well and heat. (Image 3, 4)
  • Cook over medium flame, bring to boil and cook for 5 minutes by stirring frequently.
  • Then add in the filtered jaggery syrup, mix well and cook for about 2 to 3 minutes. (Image 5)

  • Separately ghee roast the cashews. (Image 6)
  • Then add the roasted cashews and crushed cardamom into the payasam mixture. (Image 7)
  • Turn off the flame and stir in the first extracted coconut milk, mix well and the thinal paal payasam is ready.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with the Murukku.
