Paruthi Pal is a very popular drink in Madurai with authentic taste. Commonly its used to cure the common cold and cough, also good for health. Paruthi pal is made out of the paruthi vithai | cotton seeds, sweetened with karuppatti | palm jaggery and flavored with sukku | dry ginger and elakkai | cardamoms. Its is very easy to make at home. Already I have posted paruthi pal recipe made with the coconut milk and foxtail millet flour. Now for the simple and easy paruthi pal recipe as below...

Ingredients :

Paruthi Pal
Paruthi Vithai \ Cotton Seeds - 1/2 cup
Karuppatti - 1/2 cup
Dry Ginger \ Sukku - 1 tsp (+ or -)
Cardamom - 3 no

Method :

Steps To Make The Simple Paruthi Pal \ Cotton Seeds Milk :

  • Wash and Soak the paruthi vithai \ cotton seeds for overnight with required water. (Image 1)
  • Then wash for 3 to 4 times to remove the impurities.

  • To make the raw paruthi pal, grind the soaked paruthi vithai with two cups of water. Then extract the paruthi pal using metal sieve or muslin cloth. (Image 2 and 3)
  • Again grind the paruthi solids with a cup of water and extract the paruthi pal, keep aside and discard the solids, now the raw paruthi pal is ready to cook. (Image 4)

  • To make the karuppatti syrup, boil a cup of water in a pan, add in the karuppatti and cook till its dissolved in the water.
  • To make the paruthi pal, heat the raw paruthi pal and bring to boil. Then cook for about 5 minutes over simmer, by stirring frequently. (Image 6)
  • Then filter the karuppatti syrup into the boiling paruthi pal and mix well. (Image 7)
  • Finally add the crushed ginger and cardamom, boil for two minutes, remove from the flame and ready to serve. (Image 8)
