Ingredients :

Green Papaya\ Raw Papaya \ Pappali Kai - 1/2 no (medium size)
Pachai Arisi \ Raw Rice - 1/2 cup
Pulungal Arisi \ Idli Arisi - 1/2 cup
Kadalai Paruppu \ Bengal Gram - 1/4 cup
Thuvaram Paruppu \ Toor Dal - 1/4 cup
Dry Red Chili - 2 no
Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
Fennel Seeds - 1 tsp
Shallots \ Sambar Onion - 1/4 cup
Garlic - 4 cloves
Grated Coconut - 1/4 cup
Curry Leaves - 1 stk
Coriander Leaves - 2 tbsp
Oil - required
Salt To Taste.

Method :

Steps To Make The Raw Papaya | Pappali Kai Adai :

  • Wash and soak the pachai arisi, pulungal arisi, kadalai paruppu, thuvaram paruppu and dry red chili for about two hours with enough water. (Image 1)
  • Peel off the papaya skin, finely grate and keep aside. (Image 2)

  • To make the raw papaya \ pappali kai adai batter, grind the soaked ingredients, asafoetida and fennel seeds into little coarsely with required water. (Image 3 and 4)
  • Add in the shallots, garlic, coconut, curry leaves and required salt, then grind little until all the ingredients grind coarsely. (Image 5 and 6)
  • Transfer the ground batter in to a mixing bowl. Add in the finely grated raw papaya and coriander leaves, mix well and the raw papaya adai batter is ready. If the batter is too thick, mix with some water. (Image 7 and 8)

  • To make the raw papaya \ pappali adai, heat the iron tawa, turn the flame into simmer, pour a laddle full of batter or required batter in the center. (Image 9)
  • Using laddle, spread the batter into circle for about quarter inch (+ or -) thickness. (Image 10)
  • Using spoon, make some holes. (Image 11)
  • Add a teaspoon of oil. (Image 12)
  • Cover and cook until the side turns golden colour. (Image 13)
  • Turn the adai, cook till done and ready to serve. (Image 14)
  • Do the same for the remaining batter.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with the Coconut Chutney.
