Maida | All Purpose Flour - 1\2 cup
Ravai | Semolina - 1\3 cup + 1\4 cup
Coconut - 1\4 cup
Cashews - 15 broken
Sugar - 1\4 cup
Cardamom Powder - 2 no
Oil - 2 tsp + for deep fry
Ghee - 3 tbsp
Salt - 2 pinch |
Steps To Make The Sweet Somas:
- To make the somas dough, combine the flour, 1\3 cup of ravai, 2tsp of oil and 2 pinch of salt in a mixing bowl and mix altogether. (Image 1 and 2)
- Then add the required water, knead into soft dough, then cover and rest the dough for about 30minutes. (Image 3)

- Meanwhile to make the coconut stuffing | pooranam, heat a tablespoon of ghee in a hot kadhai and roast the cashews till light golden colour, transfer into a bowl. (Image 4)
- Then roast the rava with a tablespoon of ghee till golden colour and transfer into the same bowl. (Image 5)
- Then roast the coconut with a tablespoon of ghee till light brown colour and transfer into the same bowl. (Image 6)
- Add the sugar into the roasted ingredients, mix well and cool the mixture. (Image 7)

- To make the somas, divide the prepared dough into 10 balls or required size. Then roll out the balls into thin circle. (Image 8)
- Open the somas mould, place the rolled dough and place some pooramam \ stuffing in the center. (Image 9)
- Close the mould, press tightly to seal the side and take out the excess dough. (Image 10)
- Do the same for the remaining dough.

- Heat the oil in a kadhai to deep fry and turn the flame into medium. Deep fry the prepared somas till light brown colour and ready to serve. (Image 11, 12 and 13)
