Ingredients :

To Marinate:


Prawn - 250 gm (cleaned)
Red Chili Powder - 1\2 tsp
Pepper Powder - 1\4 tsp
Garam Masala - 1\2 tsp
Crushed Ginger Garlic - 1 tsp

For Gravy:


Shallots | Sambar Onion - 10 nos
Tomato - 1 no (chopped)
Cashews - 1\4 cup
Cinnamon Stick - 2" long
Cloves - 3 nos
Star Anise - 1 no
Ginger - 1 tbsp (finely chopped)
Garlic -1 tbsp (finely chopped)
Large Onion - 1 no (finely chopped)
Curry Leaves - 1 stk
Red Chili Powder - 1\2 tsp
Coriander Seeds Powder - 1\2 tsp
Cumin Seeds Powder - 1\2 tsp
Pepper Powder - 1\4 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1\4 tsp
Coriander Leaves - 2 tbsp
Oil - 2 tbsp + 2 tbsp + 1 tbsp
Salt To Taste.

Method :

Steps To Make The Prawn Cashew Gravy | Eraal Munthiri Gravy:

  • To marinate, mix the prawn with red chili powder, pepper powder, cumin seeds powder, crushed ginger garlic and some salt, set for 30mins. (Image 1 and 2)
  • Shallow fry the prawn with 2tbsp of oil and keep aside. (Image 3)

  • To make the gravy paste, saute the shallots with 1 or 2 tbsp of oil in a hot kadhai till golden colour. (Image 4)
  • Add in the tomato and cashews, cook till the tomato turns tender. (Image 5 and 6)
  • Cool the shallot-tomato mixture completely and grind into fine paste, keep aside. (Image 7)

  • To make the gravy, heat the remaining oil in a prawn sauteed kadhai and roast the cinnamon stick, cloves and star anise. (Image 8)
  • Add in the onion and curry leaves, saute till the onion turns golden colour. (Image 9)
  • Stir in the red chili power, coriander seeds powder, cumin seeds powder, pepper powder and turmeric powder for few seconds. (Image 10)
  • Add in the ground shallot-tomato mixture and mix well. (Image 11)
  • Add a cup of water, bring to boil, then add the prawns and cook for 2 to 3minutes over simmer. (Image 12)
  • Finally add the coriander leaves, mix well and ready to serve. (Image 13)
