Ingredients :

Thinai Sevai | Foxtail Millet Sevai - 200gm
Mustard Seeds - 1\4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1 tsp
Asafoetida - 1\8 tsp
Kadalai Paruppu | Bengal Gram - 1 tbsp
Cashews - 10 no
Onion - 1 no (finely chopped)
Curry Leaves - 1 stk
Green Chili - 1 no (chopped)
Salt To Taste
Oil or Ghee - 1 tbsp

Method :

Steps To Make The Thinai Sevai Upma:

  • Immerse the thinai sevai with enough water for about 5mins in a bowl. (Image 1)
  • Then drain the water completely and steam in a idly pan for 10minutes, keep aside. (Image 2)
  • To make the thinai sevai upma, heat the oil in a hot kadhai and temper the mustard seeds. Then stir in the bengal gram till golden colour and stir in the asafoetida for few seconds. (Image 3)
  • Add in the cashews and saute until the cashews turn golden colour. (Image 4)
  • Add in the onion, curry leaves and green chili, saute until the onion turns slightly golden colour. (Image 5)
  • Now add the steamed thinai sevai, mix well and cook for an minute. (Image 6 and 7)
  • Ready to serve.
Serving Suggestion: Serve the thinai sevai upma with sugar.
