Idli Cake Recipe | Super Easy Tri Colour Steamed Idli Cake Recipe

Ingredients :

Tri Colour Steamed Idli Cake
Maida | All Purpose Flour - 1 cup
Baking Powder - 1\2 tsp
Cooking Soda - 1\4 tsp
Unsalted Butter - 80 gm (room temperature)
Powdered Sugar - 1\2 cup
Egg - 2 no (room temperature)
Vanilla Essence - 1 tsp
Orange Food Colour - few pinch (optional)
Green Food Colour - few pinch (optional)

For Butter Icing: 


Unsalted Butter - 50 gm (room temperature)
Icing Sugar - 150 gm (+ or -)
Milk - required
Blue Food Colour - few pinch (optional)

Method :

Preparation:

  • Grease and dust the one or more idli pan plate with butter and flour, keep aside. (Image 1)
  • Sieve the flour with the baking powder and cooking soda for 2 to 3 times, keep aside. (Image 2)

Steps To Make The Steamed Idli Cake:

  • To make the cake batter, beat the butter and sugar till light. (Image 3 and 4)
  • Beat in the egg, one by one until combined. Then add the vanilla essence and beat little. (Image 5 and 6)

  • Now gently fold in the sieved flour mixture till combined. (Image 7 and 8)
  • Divide the batter into three equal parts in bowls. Mix the orange and green into two bowls, and leave the third bowl for white colour. (Image 9)
  • Spoon the required orange batter, white batter and then green batter on the prepared idli pan plates. (Image 10)

  • To steam, boil 3 cups of water in a idli pan and arrange the idli plate. (Image 11 an 12)
  • Cover and steam for 20 minutes over medium flame. Test the idli cake by inserting a knife at the center, it should comes out clean, else again steam for 5more minutes. (Image 13)

  • Cool the idli cake in the plate for about 5 minutes, then de-mold by running a knife at the edge and cool completely. Then slice the each idli cake horizontally into half and keep aside. (Image 14)
  • Meantime, to make the butter icing, beat the butter and the icing sugar into creamy with required milk. Then add the food colour and beat well. (Image 15)
  • Finally sand witch the idli cake with some butter icing and ready to serve. (Image 16 and 17)

Serving Suggestion: Serve the steamed idli cake with honey and ice cream.
