Ingredients :

Moonru Siru Thaniyam Millet Pongal
Thinai Arisi Thaniyam | Foxtail Millet - 1\4 cup
Samai Arisi Thaniyam | Little Millet - 1\4 cup
Varagu Arisi Thaniyam | Kodo Millet - 1\4 cup
Pasi Paruppu | Skinless Split Moong Dal - 1\4 cup
Crushed Vellam | Jaggery - 1 and 1\2 cup
Grated Coconut - 1\2 cup
Cashews - 15 to 20 nos
Raisins - 2 to 3 tbsp
Crushed Cardamom - 2 no
Sukku Podi | Dry Ginger Powder - 1 tsp
Ghee - 1\4 cup

Steps To Make The Thinai Samai Varagu (Mooru) Siru Thaniyam Pongal | Tri-Millet Pongal Recipe:

  • Dry roast the pasi paruppu until its aroma raise well and cool them. (Image 1)
  • In a mix bowl, mix the roasted pasi paruppu, thinai, samai and varagu. Then add two cup of water and soak for 30 minutes. (Image 2 and 3)
  • To make the pongal, heat 3 cups of water and bring to boil. Then add in the soaked siru thaniyam and cook for about 15mins to 20mins until them cooked well over medium flame. (Image 4 and 5)

  • Once the siru thaniyam cooked, add in the jaggery and cook till its dissolved completely. If the jaggery contains impurities means, separately make jaggery syrup with half a cup of water, filter them and then use. (Image 6)
  • Separately roast the cashews and raisins with two tablespoon of ghee. (Image 7)
  • Add the roasted cashews-raisins mixture, cardamom and dry ginger powder into the pongal mixture, mix altogether. (Image 8)

  • Add in the coconut and mix well. (Image 9)
  • Finally add in the remaining ghee, mix well and ready to serve. (Image 10 and 11)
