Ingredients :

Siru Kizhangu - 250 gm
Red Chili Powder - 1 tsp
Fennel Seeds Powder - 1\2 tsp
Pepper Powder - 1\2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1\4 tsp
Asafoetida - 1\8 tsp
Corn Flour - 2 tbsp
Maida - 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Oil for deep fry.

Steps To Make The Siru Kizhangu Varuval | Fry Recipe:

  • First wash and pressure cook the siru kizhangu with a cup of water for 1 whistle and 5minutes over simmer. When all the steam has released, open the pan and cool them. (Image 1)
  • Then remove the cooked siru kizhangu skin, slice them into small pieces and keep aside. (Image 2)
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the red chili powder, fennel seeds powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida and required salt, mix well altogether. (Image 3)
  • Add the siru kizhangu pieces, mix well and marinate for 15minutes. (Image 4)

  • To fry, heat enough oil in a kadhai.
  • Then add the corn flour and maida into the marinated siru kizhangu and toss them well. (Image 5 and 6)
  • Then deep fry in the hot oil until golden brown colour and ready to serve. (Image 7)

Serving Suggestion: Serve the siru kizhangu varuval with the sambar rice and rasam.
