Vilangai Thuvaiyal | Simple Vilangkai Uppu Kaara Thuvaiyal Recipe - Vilangai is called as wood apple in english. The raw vilangai is sour taste and it is mostly used to make chutney or thuvaiyal. The ripe vilangai is consumed with jaggery, sugar or honey. Today i tried vilangai thuvaiyal, it is made with the two ingredient of salt and dry red chili. I don't know much more about vilangai, but it has numerous nutritious values. Usually we use this vilangai for vinayagar chaturthi pooja. Now lets see how to make this vilangai thuvaiyal with easy step by step images and instructions.


Ingredients :

Vilangai | wood apple - 2 no (small)
Dry Red Chili - 5 to 8 no
Crystal Salt - as required
Gingelly Oil - 1 tsp

Steps To Make The Vilangai Uppu Kaara Thuvaiyal:

Preparation, break the vilangai with the hammer or thengai keeri in to some pieces, then take out pulp and discard the outer shell. Then cut the vilangai pulp into small pieces and keep aside.

To make the thuvaiyal, heat the oil in a hot kadhai and stir in the dry red chili for few seconds or until crispy. Then grind the roasted dry red chili and required salt into powder. Add in the vilangai pulp and grind into coarsely. Then add required water and grind into paste. Transfer into a bowl and serve. Refrigerate up to an week.

My Notes:Vilangai is sour taste so you can use more dry red chili to balance the taste.
Serving Suggestion: Serve the vilangai thuvaiyal with the ghee roasted dosai or idly with coconut chutney.
