It is made with the main ingredients of grated karunai kizhangu, sambar onion, crushed garlic and grated coconut. It is very easy to make. It goes well with sambar rice. Ingredients :

Karunai Kizhangu | Elephant Yam - 250 gm
Oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard Seeds - 1\4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1\4 tsp
Asafoetida - 1\4 tsp
Sambar Onion | Shallots - 1\2 cup (finely chopped)
Green Chili - 1 no (finely chopped)
Garlic - 5 cloves (crushed)
Curry Leaves - 1 stk
Turmeric Powder - 1\4 tsp
Salt - as required
Roasted Cumin Seeds & Pepper Powder - 1 tsp
Grated Coconut - 1\4 cup

Steps To Make The Karunai Kizhangu Puttu | Elephant Yam Poriyal:

Preparation, grate the karunai kizhangu and keep aside. Also don't wash once grated.
To make the karunai kizhangu puttu \ poriyal, heat the oil in a kadhai, temper the mustard seeds and urad dal. After splutter add the sambar onion, green chili, garlic, curry leaves and asafoetida, mix well and cook till the onion turns slightly golden colour.

Add the grated karunai kizhangu and turmeric powder. Cook slowly for 8 to 10mins. Also add the salt in between. Once the karunai kizhangu is cooked, add the roasted cumin seeds and pepper powder, mix well and cook for an minute. Finally add the grated coconut, mix well and remove the flame. Serve hot.

My Notes: While cooking, it will stick at the bottom, so frequently stir in between. If required add some oil also.
Serving Suggestion: Serve the karunai kizhangu puttu with the sambar rice.
