Palakaai Puttu | Palakaai Poriyal | Raw Jack Fruit Puttu | Raw Jack Fruit Poriyal - I bought a palakaai at nearby super market. Already I made palakaai kootu with half. With that remaining I made palakaai puttu. It is very easy to make in the pressure cooking method. But the cleaning process only tough. My mom only helped me to remove its outer skin and center hard part. Then I grated the flush and made puttu. Now lets see how to make this palakaai puttu with the simple ingredients, step by step images and instructions.

Palakaai Poriyal | Palakaai Puttu | Simple Raw Jack Fruit Poriyal

Ingredients :

Palakaai - 1\2 no (approx 2 cups grated)
Kadalai Paruppu | Bengal Gram - 1\4 cup
Turmeric Powder - 1\2 tsp
Oil - 2 to 3 tbsp
Mustard Seeds - 1\4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1\4 tsp
Curry Leaves - 2 stk
Dry Red Chili - 1 no
Asafoetida - 1\4 tsp
Sambar Onion - 1\2 cup (finely chopped)
Green Chili - 2no (slit)
Garlic - 5 cloves (crushed)
Salt - as required
Grated Coconut - 1\4 cup
Coriander Leaves - 1 or 2 tbsp (finely chopped)
Method :
  • Pressure cook the kadalai paruppu with a cup of water for one whistle and five minutes over simmer. When all the steam has released, open the pan and keep aside.
  • Preparation for raw jack fruit, cut the jack fruit into half. Remove the outer skin and center hard part. We need the flush only. Grate the flush and mix with the turmeric powder, keep aside.
  • To make the poriyal \ puttu, heat the oil in a pressure cooker pan, temper the mustard seeds and urad dal.
  • After splutter, add the curry leaves, dry red chili and asafoetida, stir for few seconds.
  • Add the sambar onion and green chili, saute till the onion turns translucent.
  • Add the garlic and saute for an minute.
  • Add the grated palakaai mixture and saute for an minute.
  • Add required salt and quarter cup of water, mix well altogether.
  • Cover and pressure cook for one whistle. When all the steam has released, open the pan.
  • Add the cooked kadalai paruppu and coconut, one by one and mix well altogether.
  • At last add the coriander leaves, mix well and the palakaai puttu poriyal is ready.
Notes: Carefully remove the palakaai outer skin and center hard part by knife or any cutter. No need to immerse the grated palakaai in the water. Just mix with the turmeric powder and cook it. Always open the pressure cooker pan, only the steam released fully.

First pressure cook the kadalai paruppu with one cup of water for one whistle and five minutes over simmer. When all the steam has released, open the pan and keep aside.
Now lets see, how to clean and use palakaai, take the palakaai, slice into half. Using sharp knife or aruvamanai, remove the palakaai outer skin. Then remove the center hard pard, we need only its flush. Then grate the palakaai flush with large holes grater. (Don't need to immerse in the water to avoid discoloration.)

Mix the grated palakaai with the turmeric powder and keep aside.
To make the palakaai poriyal, heat the oil in a pressure cooker pan, add the mustard seeds and urad dal, temper them.

After splutter, add the curry leaves, dry red chili and asafoetida, mix well altogether. Add the sambar onion and green chili, saute till the onion turns translucent.

Add the crushed garlic and saute for an minute. Then the grated palakaai mixture and cook for an minute.

Add the required salt and quarter cup of water, mix well altogether.

Cover with the lid and pressure cook for one whistle. When all the steam has released, open the pan.
Add the cooked kadalai parrupu and mix well.

Add the grated coconut and mix well altogether. Finally add the coriander mix well and the palakaai puttu \ palakaai poriyal is ready. Serve hot.

Serving Suggestion: Palakaai puttu \ palakaai poriyal will goes well with the sambar rice, dal rice and rasam.
