Vazhakkai | Raw Banana - 1 no (skin off and sliced 1" thickness) |
Gingelly Oil - 2 tbsp |
Mustard Seeds - 1\4 tsp |
Urad Dal - 1\4 tsp |
Fenugreek - 1\2 tsp |
Asafoetida - 1\4 tsp |
Sambar Onion - 1\2 cup (finely chopped) |
Garlic - 8 to 10 cloves |
Curry Leaves - 2 stk |
Local Tomato - 1 no (chopped) |
Green Chili - 2 no (slit ) |
Red Chili Powder - 1 and 1\2 tsp |
Coriander Seeds Powder - 1 and 1\2 tsp |
Cumin Seeds Powder - 1\2 tsp |
Pepper Powder - 1\2 tsp |
Turmeric Powder - 1\4 tsp |
Coconut Paste - 2 tbsp |
Tamarind Water - 1 cup (2" ball size) |
Salt To Taste. |

Notes: Deep fry the sliced vazhakkai and then add in curry to avoid breaking. |

First deep fry the sliced vazhakkai and keep aside. To make the curry, heat the oil in a pan and temper the mustard seeds and urad dal. After splutter add the fenugreek and roast it well. After that add the sambar onion, garlic and curry leaves, saute till the sambar onion turns slightly golden colour. |
Then add the tomato and green chili, saute till the tomato turns soft. After that add the red chili powder, coriander seeds powder, cumin seeds powder, pepper powder and turmeric powder, stir for few seconds. |
Add the coconut paste and mix well. Add the tamarind water and 1 and 1\2 cup of water. Bring to boil and cook for about 5mins to remove its raw smell. |
Add the already fried vazhakkai, gently mix and cook for about two minutes. And the vazhakkai saiva meen kuzhambu is ready. |
