Seela Meen | Barracuda Fish Pieces - 350 gms (cleaned) |
Mustard Seeds - 1\4 tsp |
Fenugreek - 1\4 tsp |
Coriander Seeds - 1 tbsp |
Dry Red Chili - 5 nos |
Cumin Seeds - 1\2 tsp |
Pepper - 1\2 tsp |
Oil - 1 tbsp |
Sambar Onion - 1\2 cup |
Garlic - 10 cloves |
Coconut - 1\4 cup |
Curry Leaves - 2 stk |
Tomato - 2 nos |
Green Chili - 2 nos |
Gingelly Oil - 2 tbsp |
Tamarind Water - 1 cup (2" ball size) |
Water - 1 and 1\4 cup |
Turmeric Powder - 1\4 tsp |
Salt - as required |
Method : |
Dry roast the mustard seeds, fenugreek, coriander seeds, dry red chilies, cumin seeds and pepper in a hot kadhai, keep aside. |
Heat the oil in a kadhai, add the sambar onion and garlic, saute until the onion turns slightly golden colour. Add the coconut and curry leaves, saute two minutes. Add the tomato and green chilies, saute until the tomato turns soft. Cool them completely. |
Grind the dry roasted ingredients into powder, add the sauteed onion-tomato mixture, grind into paste with required water and keep aside. |
To make the fish curry, heat the oil in a kadhai, add the ground paste and saute for an minute. Add the tamarind water, water, turmeric powder and required salt, mix well and bring to boil. Cover and cook for about ten minutes over medium flame. Add the fish pieces, cover and cook for about four to five minutes, serve hot. |
Notes: While cooking the fishes, don't stir the curry with ladle in between, it will break the fish pieces easily, so just shake the pan and cook. Fish cooks fast, so 5mins is enough to cook. |

turmeric powder and required salt, mix well and bring to boil. Cover and cook for about 10 minutes to remove the masala's raw smells. |
Add the fish seela pieces, cover and cook for about four to five minutes. Shake the kadhai in between to avoid burning at the bottom. Serve hot. |
