Suyyam | Sweet Susiyam | How To Make Suviyam | Tamil New Year Special

Ingredients :

Kadalai Paruppu - 1\2 cup
Jaggery - 1\2 cup
Coconut - 1\2 cup (grated)
Cardamom Powder - 1\2 tsp
Pachai Arisi - 1\2 cup
Ulundu - 1\2 cup
Salt - as required
Oil - deep fry
Method :

Steps To Make The Pooranam:

Wash and soak the kadalai paruppu for about 1 hr. Then pressure for two whistles with one cup of water. Cool and drain the water completely. Grind into little coarsely. Keep aside.
Heat the jaggery and quarter cup of water in a pan. Cook until the jaggery dissolves in the water.
In a kadhai, filter the jaggery syrup into it. And add the ground kadalai paruppu and cardamom powder. Mix and cook until able to make ball consistency. Then cool the pooranam, make small balls and keep aside.

Steps To Make The Suyyam Batter:

Wash and soak the pachai ariis and ulundu for about 1 hr. Drain the water, grind into fine paste with required salt and required water in a idli batter consistency.

Steps To Make The Suyyam | Susiyam:

Heat enough oil in a kadhai to deep fry. Dip the pooranam ball in the batter and deep fry in the oil, in small batches. Cook over medium flame until golden colour. Serve hot.
Notes: If the jaggery isn't contains impurities, use directly. Always open the pressure cooker pan, after the steam has released fully.

To make the jaggery syrup, heat the jaggery and 1\4 cup of water in a pan. Cook until the jaggery dissolves in the water.
To make the pooranam, in a kadhai, filter the jaggery syrup into it. And add the ground kadalai paruppu and cardamom powder.
Mix and cook until able to make ball consistency. Then cool the pooranam, make small balls and keep aside.
Suyyam batter preparations, first wash and soak the pachai ariis and ulundu for about 1 hr.
To make the suyyam batter, drain the soaked ingredients water, then grind into fine paste with required salt and required water in a idli batter consistency.
To make the suyyam, dip the pooranam ball in the batter.
And deep fry in the oil, in small batches. Cook over medium flame until golden colour. Serve hot.
Serving Suggestion: Serve with murukku and kesari.
