In some places, rice flour may not available in that case now every one easily make murukku with the plain maida flour. Only the maida steaming process is important, after that make murukku as usual with the flour. Definitely nobody can not find this murukku flour. Maida Maavu | Plain Flour - 2 cup |
Ghee or Butter - 1 tbsp |
Ommam | Ajwain - 2 tsp |
Asafoetida - 1\4 tsp |
Salt - as required |
Water - as required |

Steps To Make The Maida Murukku:To make the maida maavu murukku dough, steam the maida in a idli pan for about 7 to 10mins. Transfer the steamed maida into mixing bowl and cool completely. Then sieve the flour without lumps. Add the ghee or butter, ommam, asafoetida and required salt, mix well altogether. Add required water and knead into soft dough. |
To make the murukku, grease the murukku maker with some oil or ghee with 3hole disc. Fill the murukku maker with the required dough. Make murukku and deep fry in the hot oil over medium flame on both side. Fry 3 to 4 murukku at a time to maintain the oil temperature evenly. Cool the murukku till room temperature and store in a air tight box up to a week. |
My Notes: Beginners make the murukku on a plate or laddle, then drop in the hot oil one by one. Instead of ommam, you can also use cumin seeds or sesame seeds.
