Thinai Maavu | Foxtail Millet Flour - 2 cups
Coconut - 1/2 cup
Brown Sugar - 1/4 cup (+ or -)
Cashew-nuts - 10 no
Dry Ginger \ Sukku Powder - 1/2 tsp
Cardamom - 3 pods
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Water - required
Salt - required |
Steps To Prepare The Thinai Puttu Flour :
- Dry roast the thinai maavu \ foxtail millet flour till its nice aroma arise, allow to cool completely and transfer into the mixing bowl. (Image 1)
- Sprinkle the water (approximately 3/4 cup to 1 cup) little by little and mix well without lumps in a crumble texture. (Image 2)
Steps To Steam The Thinai Puttu in a Idly Pan :
- Boil 1 and 1/2 cups of water in a idly pan, place the top idly plate and cover by wet thin cloth. (Image 3)
- Then spread the prepared thinai puttu flour over the cloth evenly. (Image 4)
- Fold and cover the cloth edges (Image 5) and close the lid, cook for 10mins (+ or -) over medium flame.
- Open and transfer the thinai puttu into the mixing bowl. (Image 6)

Steps To Make The Thinai Puttu :
- Combine the steamed thinai puttu with brown sugar, sukku \ dry ginger and crushed cardamom while hot. (Image 7)
- Then mix with the coconut. (Image 8)
- Separately ghee roast the cashew-nuts and mix with thinai puttu mixture and ready to serve. (Image 9 and 10)
