Urad Dal Chutney | உளுந்து சட்னி | Ulundu Chutney



Ingredients :

Urad Dal Chutney | உளுந்து சட்னி | Ulundu Chutney

Urad Dal / Ulundu - 1/4 cup + 1/4 tsp
Coconut - 2 tbsp (chopped)
Dry Red Chili - 3 to 4 no
Tamarind - 1" ball size
Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - 1 stk
Oil - 1 tbsp + 1 tsp
Water - 3/4 cup (+ or -)
Salt to Taste.

Method :

Steps To Make Ulundu Chutney :
  • Roast urad dal / ulundu in 2tsp of hot oil til it becomes light golden brown colour and keep aside.
  • Similarly roast coconut, dry red chili and tamarind in 1 tsp hot oil for half a minute or until the coconut becomes little brown colour.
  • Add in asafoetida and saute for few seconds and keep aside.
  • Allow to cool completely.

  • Grind urad dal / ulundu, dry red chili and required salt into fine powder.
  • Add in coconut and tamarind, again grind into fine paste with required water and keep aside.

  • In a kadai, temper mustard seeds and 1/4 tsp of urad dal in a teaspoon of  hot oil, after splutter add curry leaves and mix well.
  • Combine ground urad dal paste with tempered ingredients, mix well and ready to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve with Dosai or Idly.
