SIRU THANIYAM | SMALL MILLET ROTI - Kelvaragu | Ragi | Finger Milllet is very high in calcium also rich in iron and fiber. In south India, ragi is used to make common foods like idiyappam, puttu and adai. Today i made sweet ragi rotti with jaggery and coconut. This is very easily make at home.

Ingredients :

Ragi Roti
Organic Kelvaragu \ Ragi \ Finger Millet Flour- 2 cups
Jaggery - 1/2 cup
Grated Fresh Coconut - 1/2 cup
Cardamom Seeds Powder - 4 no
Water - required
Salt to Taste.

Steps To Make The Kelvaragu \ Ragi \ Finger Millet Roti :

  • To make jaggery syrup, heat half a cup of water and dissolve the jaggery, cool it and keep aside. (Image 1)
  • To make roti batter, combine the ragi flour, coconut, cardamom seeds powder and generous pinch of salt in a mixing bowl. (Image 2)
  • Then add the filtered jaggery syrup and mix well. (Image 3)
  • If the batter is too thick add some water to loosen the batter, its consistency is shown in image 4.

  • To make the roti \ rotti, heat iron tawa, take a laddle full of batter, put in the center and flat into circle for about 1/4 inch with fingers carefully. (Image 5)
  • Add some ghee on the roti, cover and cook over simmer for both sides and ready to serve.
