Coconut - 1\4 cup (chopped)
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Pulunggal Arisi - 1 cup
Toor Dal - 1\2 cup
Red Chili Powder - 2 tsp
Coriander Seeds Powder - 2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1\2 tsp
Tamarind Water - 1 cup (1" ball size)
Sambar Onion | Shallots - 1\2 cup
Tomato - 2 no
Green Chili - 3 no (slit)
Raw Banana - 1\2 no (1" size, chopped)
Avarakkai - 5 to 6 no (1" size, chopped)
Drumstick - 1\2 no (2" size, chopped)
Brinjal - 2 no (1" size, chopped)
Small Potato - 1 no (1" size chopped)
Small Carrot - 1 no (1" size chopped)
Beans - 5 to 6 no (1" size, chopped)
Garlic - 6 to 7 cloves
Drumstick Leaves - 1 cup
Mustard Seeds - 1\2 tsp
Urad Dal - 1\2 tsp
Asafoetida - 1\2 tsp
Curry Leaves - 2 stk
Coriander Leaves - 3 tbsp (chopped)
Coconut Oil - 2 tbsp
Crystal Salt To Taste.

Method :

Steps To Make The Kootan Soru Recipe In Village Style - Easy Pressure Cooking:

  • Preparation, grind the coconut and cumin seeds coarsely with some water and keep aside. (Image 1 and 2)
  • Wash and soak the rice and dal for about 30 minutes.
  • To make the kootan soru, Heat 4 cup of water in a pressure cooker pan, add in the soaked rice and dal, pressure cook for 1 whistle and 3 to 5 minutes over simmer. When all the steam has released, open the pan. (Image 3 and 4)

  • Add in the ground coconut mixture, red chili powder, coriander seeds powder, turmeric powder and tamarind water, mix well. (Image 5 and 6)
  • Add in the sambar onion, tomato, green chili, raw banana, avarakkai, drumstick, brinjal, potato, carrot, beans and garlic, mix well. (Image 7)
  • Then add in the drumstick leaves, required salt and a cup of water, mix well and bring to boil. (Image 8 and 9)
  • Cover and pressure cook for 1 whistle. When all the steam has released, open the pan. (Image 10)

  • Separately temper the mustard seeds and urad in two tablespoon of oil, after splutter stir in the asafoetida and then stir in the curry leaves. (Image 11)
  • Add the tempered mixture into the cooked rice-veg mixture, finally add the coriander leaves, mix well and the kootan soru is ready to serve. (Image 12 and 13)
