To make the bonda mixture, in a mixing bowl add the butter and cooking soda |
mix well altogether |
Add the fennel seeds, ginger, garlic and green chili |
mix them |
Then add in the sliced onion, coriander leaves, curry leaves and asafoetida powder, mix well. |
Then add in the besan flour, rice flour and required salt, again mix well. |
Sprinkle the required water little by little and mix into dough. |
Make small balls out of the dough. |
Heat enough oil in a kadai, deep fry them in two to three batches. |
Cook over medium-low flame until slightly golden brown color. Serve hot. |

Unsalted Butter - 2 tbsps |
Cooking Soda - 2 pinches |
Fennel Seeds - 1/2 tsp |
Ginger - 1 tsp (finely chopped) |
Garlic - 1 tsp (finely chopped) |
Green Chilli - 1 no (finely chopped) |
Onion - 2 nos (sliced) |
Coriander Leaves - 2 tbsps (finely chopped) |
Curry Leaves - 2 to 3 sticks |
Asafoetida - 1\4 tsp |
Besan Flour - 1 cup |
Rice Flour - 1\2 cup |
Salt - as needed |
Oil - deep fry |
Method : |
To make the bonda mixture, mix the butter and cooking soda in a mixing bowl. |
Add the fennel seeds, ginger, garlic and green chili, mix well altogether. |
Then add in the onion, coriander leaves, curry leaves, asafoetida and mix well. |
Then add in the besan flour, rice flour and required salt, again mix well. |
Sprinkle the required water little by little and mix into dough. |
Make small balls out of the dough. |

Place the fried bondas in paper towel to remove excess oil and serve hot immediately. |
Notes: If the bonda batter is too watery, will absorbs more oil while frying. If the bonda batter is too hard, will turns into hard. So add the water little by little to get right consistency. |
