Coconut Milk Lady's Finger / Okra / Bhindi / Vendakkai Kootu


Ingredients :

Coconut Milk Lady's Finger / Okra / Bhindi / Vendakkai Kootu Ingredients

Okra / Lady's Finger - 150 gm (removed edges and finely chopped)
Green Gram (split and skinless) - 2 tbsp (cooked with 1/4tsp of turmeric powder)
Onion - 1 no (chopped)
Green Chili - 2 no (chopped)
Coconut Milk - 1 cup
Water - 1/2 cup
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt to taste.

To Temper :

Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal / Black Gram (skinless) - 1/4 tsp

Method :


Steps To Make Coconut Milk Okra \ Vendakkai Kootu :
  • Heat oil in a pan, temper mustard seeds and urad dal, after splutter add onion and green chili, saute until the onion becomes slightly golden brown colour.
  • Add okra / lady's finger and required salt, saute and cook for 7 - 10 minute in simmer.


  • Add cooked green gram (pasi paruppu), saute for few seconds.
  • Finally pour coconut milk and water, mix well and cook for 2mins in medium flame til boil, remove from the flame and ready to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Crispy Potota Fry or Simple Fried Elephant Yam / Karunai / Senai Kilangu or Crispy Sepang Kilangu Varuval / Taro Fry.
