Bottle Gourd / Sorakkai Thokku


Ingredients :

Bottle Gourd / Sorakkai Thokku Ingredients

Bottle Gourd - 250gm ( skin peeled, chopped)
Boiled Milk - 1/2 cup
Large Onion - 1 no (chopped)
Large Tomato - 1 no (chopped)
Red Chili Powder - 3/4 tsp
Coriander Powder - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - 2 stk
Oil - 2 tbsp
Salt to Taste.

To Temper :

Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1/4 tsp

Method :


Steps To Make Sorakkai Thokku :
  • Heat oil in a kadai / frying pan, temper, mustard seeds and urad dal / black gram, after splutter add onion and curry leaves, saute until the onion becomes light golden brown colour.
  • Add bottle gourd / sorakkai , turmeric powder and required salt, saute and close the lid, cook for 5mins in medium flame. (keep an eye)


  • Add in red chili powder, coriander powder and tomato, saute until the raw smell leaves completely.
  • Pour boiled milk and mix well, close the lid and cook for another 5minute in medium flame, stir in between, mix well and ready to serve.

Bottle Gourd / Sorakkai Thokku

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Dal Rice.
