Ingredients :

Chettinad Karapodi Meen Kuzhambu / Silver Belly - Pony Fish Curry
Karapodi Meen / Silver Belly Fish - 500gm (large)
Coconut - 3 tbsp (chopped)
Coriander Seeds - 2 tbs
Black Pepper - 1/2 tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Dry Red Chili - 8 to 10 no
Sambar Onion | Shallots - 1/2 cup (chopped)
Tomatoes - 2 no (chopped)
Green Chili - 3 no
Curry Leaves - 1 stk
Tamarind Water - 1 cup (2" ball size)
Water - 1 cup
Gingelly Oil - 3 tbsp
Salt to Taste.

Steps To Make The Karapodi Meen Kuzhambu Masala:

  • First dry roast the coriander seeds, pepper, cumin seeds and dry red chili in a hot kadhai. Then cool the roasted ingredients completely.
  • To make the masala paste, grind the roasted ingredients into powder. (Image 1 and 2)
  • Add the coconut and grind into fine paste with required water and keep aside.(Image 3 and 4)

Steps To Make Karapodi Meen Kuzhambu:

  • Heat the oil in a cooking utensil, add the onion and curry leaves, saute until the onion becomes light golden colour. (Image 5)
  • Add the tomato and green chili, saute and cook till the tomato becomes tender. (Image 6)
  • Add the ground masala paste and saute for an minute. (Image 7)
  • Add the tamarind water and water, mix them and bring to boil, then close the lid and cook for eight to ten minutes over medium flame or until its raw smell leaves. (Image 8)
  • Then add the karapodi fish pieces and again close the lid, cook for five minutes over medium flame. (Image 9 and 10)
  • Finally remove from the flame and allow to stand for five minutes to separate the oil from the curry and serve.
