Nellikkai Thuvaiyal | நெல்லிக்காய் துவையல் | Amla Thogayal



Ingredients :

Nellikkai Thuvaiyal | நெல்லிக்காய் துவையல் | Amla Thogayal

Nellikkai / Amla - 5 no (Large, De-seeded, Sliced)
Urad Dal - 2 tbsp
Coconut - 2 tbsp (chopped)
Dry Red Chili - 5 no
Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
Oil - 1 tbsp
Water - Required
Salt to Taste.

To Temper :

Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - 1 stk

Method :

Steps To Make Nellikkai Thuvaiyal :
  • Heat a teaspoon of oil in a hot kadai, roast urad dal (2 tbsp) and dry red chili, til the urad dal becomes light brown colour.
  • Add in asafoetida and saute for few seconds.
  • Add coconut pieces and saute for about half a minute. Keep aside.
  • Allow to cool completely.

  • In a same kadai, heat again a teaspoon of oil, add nellikkai \ amla, saute for an minute.
  • Keep aside and allow to cool completely.

  • Grind roasted urad dal, dry red chili, coconut, asafoetida and required salt. (shown in above image 7 and 8)
  • Add in roasted nellikkai \ amla and grind into paste with required water, keep aside. (shown in above image 9 and 10)

  • In a same kadai \ pan, temper mustard seeds and urad dal in a teaspoon of hot oil, after splutter add curry leaves and saute for few seconds.
  • Mix the tempered ingredients with amla paste and ready to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve with Dosai or Idly.
