New Year Special - Simple Chocolate Sponge Cake



Ingredients :

New Year Special - Simple Chocolate Sponge Cake

Maida \ All Purpose Flour - 1/2 cup
Cornflour - 1/4 cup cup
Cocoa Powder - 2 tbsp
Brown Sugar - 3/4 cup
Egg - 3 no
Baking Powder - 1 tsp
Cooking Soda - 1/2 tsp
Vanilla Essence - 1 tsp
Butter - 50 gm
Salt - pinch

Method :

New Year Special - Simple Chocolate Sponge Cake

Steps To Make Simple Chocolate Sponge Cake :
  • Pre-heat the oven to 200 degree Celsius.
  • Line a 9" round baking tin and lightly grease the base and keep aside. (Image 1)
  • Sieve the flour along with baking powder, cooking soda and salt for 2 to 3 times and keep aside. (Image 2)
  • Melt the butter and mix with cocoa powder and keep aside. (Image 3 and 4)

  • Separate the eggs yolk and protein.
  • Beat the yolks with an electric mixer for 2 to 3minutes, until pale yellow. (Image 5)
  • Add on the sugar and continue beating for 5minutes longer, until the yolks are thick in texture. (Image 6)
  • Add butter-cocoa mixture, beat for few seconds and keep aside. (Image 7 and 8)

  • Beat the egg whites until peaks and keep aside. (Image 9)
  • Mix the flour with egg yolk mixture. (Image 10) 
  • Then stir 1/4 of the beaten egg whites into the flour mixture, then gently fold in the remainder of the egg whites. (Image 11)
  • Pour the cake batter into the prepared tin. (Image 12)

New Year Special - Simple Chocolate Sponge Cake

  • Bake for 20 to 25mins or until cooked. (Image 13)
  • Test the cake by inserting a tooth pick or knife in the middle and it should comes out clean.
  • Cool the cake in the tin for about 10minutes.
  • Turn out, remove waxed paper and cool completely on wire rack. (Image 14)
  • Decorate with your favorite icing and ready to serve.
