Ingredients :

Arai Keerai Paruppu Masiyal | அரைக் கீரை பருப்பு மசியல் | Amaranth Green And Toor Dal Masiyal

Arai Keerai \ Amaranth Green - 1/2 bunch (thick stem removed, chopped, washed)
Thuvaram Paruppu \ Toor Dal - 1/4 cup
Shallots - 15 no
Tomato - 2 no
Garlic - 5 cloves
Green Chili - 2 no
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Oil - 1 tsp
Water - 1 cup + 1/2 cup
Salt to Taste.

To Temper :

Cumin Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Shallots - 2 no (finely chopped)
Oil - 2 tsp

Method :

Steps To Make Arai Keerai Paruppu Masiyal :
  • Pressure cook the thuvaram paruppu \ toor dal with turmeric powder, water (1 cup) and oil for 1 whistle and 3mins in simmer. (Image 1)
  • When all the steam has escaped, open the pressure cooker pan. (Image 2)
  • Add in shallots, tomatoes, green chili and arai keerai \ greens and mix well. (Image 3)
  • Pour water (1/2 cup) and add required salt, mix well and again pressure cook for 1 whistle. (Image 4)
  • Open the pressure cooker pan, after the steam escaped and allow to cool little. (Image 5)
  • Grind coarsely using hand mixer or mixi and keep aside. (Image 6)

  • Temper cumin seeds in hot oil in a kadai \ frying pan. (Image 7)
  • After splutter add shallots and saute til light brown colour. (Image 8)
  • Transfer the tempered ingredients into the greens-dal mixture, mix well and ready to serve. (Image 9 and 10)

Serving Suggestion : Serve with Crispy Taro Fry or Fried Eggs.
