A typical south Indian snack also very common and popular tea time snack. Made with the main ingredients of besan flour, rice flour and asafoetida and deep fried in the oil.

Egg Bajji | Muttai Bajji | Evening Snack

Serves: 4 to 5 persons

Ingredients :

Hard Boiled Eggs - 5 nos (sliced into two or three)
Onion - 1\2 no
Garlic cloves - 3 to 5 nos or Omam \ Carrom Seeds - 1\4 tsp
Green Chili - 1 no
Besan Flour - 1 cup
Rice Flour - 1\4 cup
Red Chili Powder - 1\4 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1\4 tsp
Asafoetida - 2 pinches
Cooking Soda - 1 pinch
Required Salt
Required Water
Oil for deep fry
Method :
Grind the onion, garlic cloves and green chili into paste with little water.
In a mixing bowl, add the besan flour, rice, red chili powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, cooking soda and salt, mix well altogether.
Add the ground paste and required water, mix without lumps, consistency should be little thick and flow like ribbon,
Dip the sliced egg in the batter and coat the batter well.
Deep fry in the hot oil until slightly golden brown color.
Drain them on a kitchen tissue and serve hot.
Notes: Batter consistency should not be too thick or thin otherwise it will not coat the egg and drip.

Instead of garlic, can also use 1\4 tsp of omam (optional)

Serving Suggestion:  Serve with the coconut chutney and mint chutney along with the tea or coffee.
