Ingredients :

Mustard Seeds - 1\4 tsp
Ulunthu | Urad Dal - 1 tbsp
Kadalai Paruppu | Bengal Gram 1 tbsp
Dry Red Chili - 1 no (finely chopped)
Grated Coconut - 1\4 cup
Pachai Arisi Maavu | Raw Rice Flour - 1 cup
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt to Taste.

Steps To Make The Uppu Kozhukattai | Salt Kozhukattai Recipe:

To make the kozhukattai dough, heat the oil in a kadhai and temper the mustard seeds. After splutter add the urad dal, bengal gram and dry red chili, saute till golden colour. Then add the coconut, stir well for few seconds and keep aside.

Separately heat a cup of water with required salt (no need to boil). Add the rice flour into the tempered ingredients and mix well. Then add the required salted water and knead into soft dough.

Then make small balls out of the dough for about one and half inch ball size and keep aside. To steam the kozhukattai, boil two cups of water (or required water) in a idli pan, place the top plate and spread the wet cloth on the plate. Then arrange the kozhukattai, cover and cook for about 12 to 15mins over medium flame. Now the simple salt kozhukattai is ready for prayer.

My Notes: You can also steam the kozhukattai similarly in the pressure cooker pan without whistle.
Serving Suggestion: Serve the uppu kozhukattai with the sweet kozhukattai.
