Its made with the main ingredient of raw rice, along with jaggery and coconut. Instead of jaggery we can also use palm sugar or brown sugar.

Ingredients : |
Pachai Arisi | Raw Rice - 1 cup |
Coconut - 1\4 cup (chopped |
Cardamoms - 2 nos |
Salt - generous pinch |
Powdered Jaggery | Nattu Sakkarai - 3\4 cup |
Cooking Soda - generous pinch |
Method : |
Wash and soak the raw rice for about two hours. Then drain the water. |
Grind the soaked raw rice, coconut, cardamoms and salt into fine paste with approximately quarter cup of water. |
Add in the jaggery and again grind into fine paste. |
Transfer the batter in to a bowl, mix the cooking soda and the appam batter is ready. |
Heat the paniyaram pan until hot. Add some ghee in the each moulds. Fill 3\4th appam batter in each moulds. |
Cook on both sides until golden brown colour. Remove the appam from the moulds and place it in a paper towel to drain the excess ghee. |
Now the Appam is ready to serving. |
Notes: Instead of jaggery, we can also use normal sugar, brown sugar or palm sugar. |
