Ingredients :

Pachai Kondakadalai \ Green Colour Chickpeas - 1 cup
Large Onion - 1 no (chopped)
Tomato - 2 no (chopped)
Green Chili - 2 no
Cashews - 1/4 cup
Red Chili Powder - 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds Powder - 1 tsp
Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp
Pepper Powder - 1/4 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Cloves - 4 no
Cinnamon Stick - 2 no (each 2" long)
Cardamom - 2 no
Bay Leaves - 2 no
Oil - 1 tbsp
Butter - 1 tbsp
Salt To Taste.

Method :

Preparation

  • Wash and soak the green chickpeas \ pachai kondakadala for overnight with required water.

Steps To Make The Green Chickpeas \ Pachai Kondakadalai Gravy :

  • Pressure cook the soaked green chickpeas for 1 whistle and 5 minutes over simmer with one and half cup of water and required salt. When all the steam has escaped, open the pan and keep aside. (Image 1)

  • To make the base gravy mixture, heat oil in a kadhai \ pan, add in the onion and curry leaves, saute till golden colour. (Image 2)
  • Add in the tomato and green chili, saute till the tomato turns tender. (Image 3)
  • Add in the cashews and cook for an minute. (Image 4)
  • Then add in the red chili powder, cumin seeds powder, garam masala, pepper, turmeric powder and required salt. Stir for an minute or until its raw smell leaves. Then cool the base gravy mixture completely. (Image 5 and 6)
  • Once cooled, grind the base gravy mixture into fine paste and keep aside. (Image 7)

  • To make the green chickpeas gravy, heat butter in a pressure cooker pan, roast the cloves, cinnamon stick, cardamom and bay leaves. (Image 8)
  • Add in the ground base gravy mixture and stir for few seconds. (Image 9)
  • Add in the pressure cooked green chickpeas, half a cup of water and required salt. Mix all and bring to boil, then pressure cook for 1 whistle. When all the steam has escaped, open the pan, mix altogether, add the coriander leaves, mix well and ready to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with the poori, chapathi, idli or dosai.
